Congratulations Castle Boys Swimming and Diving - Sectional Champions!

Castle Boys Swimming and Diving won their 6th consecutive IHSAA Sectional Championship on February 18, 2012, at the Castle Natatorium. The meet started with a splash during prelims, as Castle placed three swimmers in the top eight of all individual events except one. The momentum only continued at finals, as the 200 medley relay kicked off the action, by breaking the sectional record previously set in 2000. The 2012 relay team of Senior John Roeder, Senior John Winck, Junior Philip Butler and Freshman Trey Kolleck won with a time of 1:38.07, breaking the previous 1:38.31 record and advancing to the state meet in Indianapolis, February 24 and 25.

The Knights continued to roll through the rest of the meet, with all swims (except one) being a lifetime best. Diver David Pate won the diving competition with 373.25 points and advanced to diving regionals, where he then placed eighth to qualify for state.

The 200 free relay team of Winck, Butler, Kolleck and Junior Alex Barniak also took first place. In addition, with a time of 21.74, Winck won the 50 free, and his time of 47.58 in the 100 free also met the state's qualifying standard. Butler won the 100 butterfly in 52.73 seconds to advance to state, and his time of 1:57.23 in the 200 IM qualified him for state in an at-large spot.

With a final team score of 484, Castle finished first of 11 teams, followed by Evansville Memorial with 421 points and Mount Vernon with 402 points.
