End-of-season banquet
reservations due February 24.

Mark your calendars for our
end-of-season banquet and celebration. It will be Tuesday, March 6, 5:30pm at Rolling Hills Country Club. Meals for all swimmers and divers will be paid for by the booster club. Invitations were emailed to all families, with reservations due by February 24.

Congratulations Castle Boys Swimming and Diving - Sectional Champions!

Castle Boys Swimming and Diving won their 6th consecutive IHSAA Sectional Championship on February 18 at the Castle Natatorium. The meet started with a splash during prelims, as Castle placed three swimmers in the top eight of all individual events except one. The momentum only continued at finals, as the 200 medley relay kicked off the action, by breaking the sectional record previously set in 2000. The 2012 relay team of Senior John Roeder, Senior John Winck, Junior Philip Butler and Freshman Trey Kolleck won with a time of 1:38.07, breaking the previous 1:38.31 record and advancing to the state meet in Indianapolis, February 24 and 25.

The Knights continued to roll through the rest of the meet, with all swims (except one) being a lifetime best. Diver David Pate won the diving competition with 373.25 points, advancing to diving regionals on Tuesday, February 21, at Bloomington North. (Read the Courier and Press article about David.)

The 200 free relay team of Winck, Butler, Kolleck and Junior Alex Barniak also took first place. In addition, with a time of 21.74, Winck won the 50 free, and his time of 47.58 in the 100 free also met the state's qualifying standard. Butler won the 100 butterfly in 52.73 seconds to advance to state, and his time of 1:57.23 in the 200 IM qualified him for state in an at-large spot.

With a final team score of 484, Castle finished first of 11 teams, followed by Evansville Memorial with 421 points and Mount Vernon with 402 points.

State Meet Information

Castle Lady Knights Wrap Up 2012 Season.

The Castle Girls Swim team finished the season strong, sending two relays and three individuals to the IHSAA Girls Swimming and Diving State Championship in Indianapolis on February 10 and 11.

The 200 medley relay team of Sophomore Katie Malach, Sophomore Alexis Baize, Freshman Christie Jensen, and Freshman Olivia Treski swam to an 11th place finish with a time of 1:48:73. The 200 free relay team of Jensen, Sophomore Laura Barniak, Treski and Malach placed 18th with a time of 1:39.80.

In individual events, Sophomore Allison Saylor finished 19th in one meter diving with 268.20 points. Treski swam the 200 free in 1:54.55 and the 500 free in 5:05.83, placing 15th and 18th respectively. Malach competed in the 100 fly, finishing 17th with a time of 58.75.
